December Filly

This past December, some friends of ours told us they’d seen a new foal with Sitting Bull’s family in Bighorn Canyon. This came as quite a surprise to us. It is rare for horses to foal out of season. The last case I know of was when one of Shaman’s mares foaled in September. That September filly is with Bolder now, and she has grown into a beautiful dun filly. The horses again have a remarkable ability to overcome challenges; and this new December foal is no exception to that.

The first time I saw her was on December 26, 2006. She and her mom were near the road.

In March I was able to visit the range again, and we happened to run into the family near Turkey Flats. It was great to see that fuzzy little filly still alive and well.

She continued to survive, and it isn’t uncommon to see her out in Bighorn Canyon with her mother and father, like I did here on July 15, 2007.

The last time I saw her was on August 28, 2007, when she was with her family on Mustang Flats.
